We got lost

Growing up was fun. It seemed everyone loved everyone and so our community was like one big family. No child was the responsibility of his or her parents alone. As much as possible, every parent looked out for other people’s children just as they would have done theirs. We, the children had a carnival of some sort as we moved from ‘table to table” partaking of whatever that was provided. It was like a taboo not to eat what was presented. This way no child went hungry even when parents are in the farm, away to the market or gone for any other personal matter; the absence of one’s parents never meant that their children won’t be cared for till they came back, no. Honestly, our community lived in such a way that made it possible for such children to miss nothing except for the obvious parental attachment –that’s all. It was really fun.
